Newton's top 10 favorite cards in Kinny's Cube

In light of the cube draft that took place last week, I figured that for my top 10 this week I'd do a top 10 favorite cards in the cube! This is not a technical look at the cards, but rather the cards that I've had the most fun playing with, or that I have seen as the best for use in the cube.

First off...

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Mantis Rider, Tinker, and Skinshifter:

The primary reason that these cards are not on the top ten itself is that I have yet to have a chance to use them. Mantis rider is an amazing creature for a three (3) drop. Tinker is an even more amazing three (3) drop. Skinshifter is an extremely versatile creature that can be a 4/4 on turn 3 with no downsides. I really like all these cards and hope I get the chance to use them in the future.

10. Phyrexian Metamorph

This is one of the most versatile creatures in the cube...especially since it can be any creature. Plopping this down as a copy of an opponent's Primeval Titan or your own Phyrexian Obliterator is just a kick to the head.

9. Memnarch

I specifically remember having this on the field and saying to my opponent, "You should play an artifact" and you know what? He did. The second that thing hit the field I took control of it. Then the next turn I stole his Xenagos, God of Revels and swung for over 20.

8. Master of the Feast

This thing is such a bomb it's ridiculous. Who cares that your opponents draw a card on your turn when you're taking out a fourth of their life every turn? Dark ritual and put this thing down on turn one (1) and you either cause your opponent to waste a kill spell on it really early on or you take them out really quickly.

7. Holy Day

Okay I know this seems like a weird choice for a top ten list but this card has saved my butt more times than I'd like to admit. I've used this to save myself from dying one turn and board wipe the next turn saving myself even further.

6. Dark Ritual

The aforementioned Dark Ritual. One of the best black cards ever printed and I love it to death. Dark ritual into a Master of the Feasts, Phyrexian Obliterator, or even a Griselbrand. It gets you leaps and bounds ahead of the game to dominate your opponents.

5. Vexing Devil

I am definitely no red player, but this is a red card that I can get behind. Forcing your opponents to pay a fifth of their life on the first turn is ridiculous. Otherwise it's a huge creature for a cheap cost later in the game. Either way, I really like this card.

4. Sol Ring

Turn one Sol ring is a BEAST in draft/cube format. You get WAY ahead of the curve WAY faster than any other method. This thing is a serious threat and unless I'm given a serious other option I will ALWAYS pick this if it's in a pack.

3. Thoughsieze

This card has been following me since I started playing Magic. It's just so simple. So elegant. So useful. This card is just so useful it's ridiculous.

2. Elspeth, Sun's Champion

This card is a bomb, hands down. You can use it as a board wipe (which I have done multiple times). You can use it as an extremely efficient token engine (which I have done multiple times). And it's a target for removal from your opponents, distracting them from the rest of your forces. I love token decks so I almost always pick this.

1. Phyrexian Obliterator

This is literally the only card in the cube that I have actually made people give up and quit after casting it. It's a huge threat for a decent cost. It's an enormous threat for a reasonable cost. It's totally ridiculous and it makes people want to cry when you play it. There are no downsides to this card unless you burn it yourself for some reason but that would just be stupid. I love this card. You love this card. All hail Phyrexian Obliterator.
